KARACHI, Aug 9: The trial of Justice Nizam murder case could not proceed on Friday as the prime accused, Asif Ali Zardari, was not produced in the court.
The district and sessions judge, Central, Zafar Ahmed Sherwani, put off the hearing till September 13, ordering the jail authorities to produce Mr Zardari before the court on the next date.
The spouse of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto along with three co-accused — Akhtar Javed Pirzada, Bilal Shaikh and Babar Sindhu — are facing the charges of double murder.
The former judge of the Sindh High Court and his son, Nadim Ahmed, a lawyer, were shot dead in an attack in 1996 near their house within the limits of the Ferozabad police.
MUTTAHIDA MEN ACQUITTED:The additional district and sessions judge, West, Ms Naseem Mansoor, acquitted two workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in a robbery case.
The judge exonerated Maqsood Vedio Wala and Rashid Teli, booked in 2000 by the Pak Colony police, from the charges as the prosecution could not establish its case.
WARRANTS AGAINST DSP:The additional district and sessions judge, Central, Ghulam Qadir Leghari, issued non- bailable warrants for the arrest of a deputy superintendent of police (DSP).
The judge also ordered the deduction of Rs5,000 from the salary of DSP Ali Yar Khan, who was not appearing before the court despite repeated notices.
The police official was required by the court for his evidence in a murder case.
