Five feared dead in accident

GILGIT, Aug 8: At least five people were feared dead on Wednesday when a car (RIG-0187), headed for Skardu, fell into the Indus River near the village Shingush, 79kms east of here, police sources told Dawn on Thursday.

They said that the driver of the car, Ali Muhammad s/o Muhammad Hasan, resident of Mehdiabad, Skardu, Muhammad Rizwan s/o Muhammad Rahim resident of Mehdiabad, Hasan son of Raza resident of Tulti, Skardu, Hawaldar Ali and sepoy Iqbal of Northern Light Infantry (NLI) were reportedly travelling in the ill-fated car.

Two members of a family were killed and four were injured in a road accident in Ghizer District on Thursday, police sources said.

They added that Ayub, a hotel manager and his eight-year-old son, were killed when their jeep (Glt- 5308) plunged into a ditch in Phandar valley. Amjad, Zar Alam, Mohammad Ali, and Mir Wali, the driver, were critically injured.—Correspondent
