Investment proposals discussed

KARACHI, Oct 8: Various proposals for attracting investment to the province came under discussion at a meeting of Steering Committee of Provincial Committee on Investment (PCOI) held here on Monday, with Industries Minister Dewan Mohammed Yousuf Farooqui in the chair.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Secretary Industries and other members of the committee including Syed Nasir Ali Shah Bukhari, Tariq Rangoonwala, Arif Elahi, DG BOI, Zubair Motiwala, Sohail Siddiqi, CEO Siemens.

The meeting was informed that a conference on investment will be organized here. Earlier the conference was to be held this month but had to be postponed in view of prevailing situation.

It was decided to ensure greater liaison between BOI and PCOI which would work jointly for doing away with the hurdles and bottlenecks in the inflow of investment.

Dewan Yousuf said that the government has taken a number of steps for investment and has announced various incentives for the investors.

He said that all possible measures are being taken to improve the law and order so as to provide a conducive investment climate.

He said the government’s objective is to build up the confidence of business community.

The PCOI’s members from private sector appreciated the government’s continuity in its policies and said this should not change off-and-on.

They said whatever commitment comes from the government must be fulfilled along with maintenance of better law and order situation, which serves mainly to attract investment.—APP
