TOBA TEK SINGH, Aug 7: A constable was seriously wounded as a result of firing by dacoits near Kamalia on Wednesday afternoon.
Jakhar police post staff was on patrol on their motorcycle when they were told by the residents that a dacoits’ gang was seen in the area. They started chasing them and confronted them on the Kamalia-Qadir Bakhsh Road. The gang started firing on them as a result of which Constable Zulfiqar Ali was shot at and injured seriously. He was taken to the Kamalia Tehsil Headquarters Hospital from where he was shifted to the Allied Hospital in Faisalabad due to his serious condition.
Meanwhile, the district police chief awarded a cash prize of Rs10,000 to the injured Zulfiqar.
FARMERS’ RALLY: The South Asia Partnership (SAP) and various local farmers’ organizations will stage a rally here on Aug 11 to press the government for the acceptance of their demands.
Addressing a meeting on Wednesday SAP official Mahmood Ahmad, programme coordinator Mushtaq Kashfi and NGO representatives Arshad Kahloon, Arshad Ghumman and Haji Muhammad Jamil announced that farmers would arrive at the district headquarter on tractor-trolleys from their villages. They would hold a peaceful rally to demand regular supply of irrigation water.
They said due to water shortage their crops have been destroyed.
They said the SAP also supported the demand of 95,000 tenants of livestock farms for their ownership rights.
