FAISALABAD, Aug 7: None of the political parties has so far finalized lists of candidates with just over two months left in the general elections.

Dawn learnt on Wednesday that scores of aspirants had been trying to win support of the influential people in their areas to get tickets.

Pakistan People’s Party, now called the PPP Parliamentarians, and Pakistan Muslim League’s both factions have reportedly received a number of applications from the aspirants, especially from former parliamentarians, Nazimeen, their deputies and close relatives of the former members of assemblies.

A majority of political bigwigs have already been assured by their respective party leaders of confirmation of their tickets for the elections. Some of the veterans have submitted applications for getting two tickets each for national and provincial assemblies’ seats.

The PPP sources disclosed that the party would award tickets preferably to veterans in all the constituencies. The mandatory condition of graduation for contesting polls had forced the central leadership of all political parties to award party tickets to the kin of former parliamentarians, he said.

Talking to this correspondent, PML-N local leaders claimed they had received hundreds of applications from veterans, activists and leaders eligible for contesting the polls. They said the party tickets would be awarded only to the sincere people.

The leadership of Pakistan Awami Tehrik, Mutahidda Majlis-i-Amal, Tehrik-i-Insaf, Millat Party, and Jamaat-i-Islami is not in a position to enrol veterans in the list of interested candidates. These political parties will reportedly have to award 80 per cent tickets to amateurs.

Meanwhile, the PML-QA has been giving final touches to the lists of candidates for all the constituencies in Faisalabad.

District Naib Nazim Muhammad Afzal Sahi, Tehsil Nazim Misbahuddin Zaigham and Naib Nazim Dr Muhammad Yaseen are among the aspirants for PML-QA tickets.
