VEHARI, Aug 6: After the recovery of two more bodies, the death toll rose to 22 on Tuesday who drowned in the Thingi Canal on Saturday after a Mailsi-bound wagon fell into it.
They were identified as Noor Muhammad of Chak 7, Mailsi, and Munir Masih of Bangla Sanchawala, Vehari. It was learnt that 28 passengers, including women and children, were on board the wagon as against the capacity of only 16. Mitro police have arrested wagon driver Muhammad Mushtaq and registered a case against him. Six people were rescued while the 20 drowned had already been identified.
