KARACHI, Aug 6: Fatehyab Ali Khan has been elected as president of the Pakistan Mazdoor Kissan Party (PMKP).

Rao Salman has been elected as the general-secretary of the party which will have four vice-presidents namely Nooruddin Sarki, Salar Ahmed Ali, Muhammad Nasim Baluch and Riaz Ahmed Khalil Advocate.

The office-bearers of the party were elected at a three-day workers convention held at Charsaddah, says a statement issued here on Tuesday.

The central and provincial office-bearers were also elected at the convention.

The chief of the PMKP, Fatehyab Ali Khan also unveiled the manifesto of the party on the occasion.

The PMKP manifesto called for bringing to an end private proprietary rights from the monopoly industries. It called for the setting up of ‘Kissan’ courts on the pattern of the labour courts. and proportionate allocation of seats for workers and peasants in the national and provincial assemblies.

The PMKP demanded restoration of the 1973 constitution. The manifesto demanded that the regional civilizations, cultures, languages be protected and promoted.

Constitutional guarantee be provided for the workers’ forming unions, right of strike and jobs as well as trade union activities. Restrictions from civil liberties and democratic rights be lifted and they be provided with constitutional guarantees. Education up to matric be declared free, stress be laid on science and technology education and there be uniformity in the system of education.

The PMKP also called for pursuing a balanced foreign policy, the statement added. — APP
