QUETTA, Aug 5: Balochistan had over 27 trillion cubic feet (TFC) of gas, the sources of Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) said.
This natural gas came from several gas fields in Jandran, Savi Ragha, Zain, Loti, Uch, Pirkor and Sui. Of the 27 TCF, over 13 TCF gas was being supplied to different parts of the country, they explained.
It would meet about 60 per cent of national fuel demand for running industries, trade and commerce, besides meeting domestic requirements in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and the NWFP.
PPL sources said the imprudent use of gas reserves had resulted in a rapid depletion to reserve balance of little over 2.186 TCF at Sui alone.
When asked about the measures adopted for additional development of gas resources at Sui, they said the government was going ahead with plan for substantial increase by over 600 million cubic feet. Under this plan, the sources said, a new deep well had already been drilled at Pab Sandstone, having substantial commercial quantity of fine quality gas.
Another gas well had also been drilled at Sui to appraise Hydrocarbon potential of lower goru in the Sui gas field.—PPI
