HYDERABAD, Aug 5: Several activists of the Awami Tehrik, Sobuo Rind Goth, Chambar, Tando Allahyar Taluka, staged a token hunger strike outside the press club on Monday to protest against the alleged excesses of Choudhry Saeen Bux Kalyar, Bashir Ahmed Kalyar, A. Bux Kalyar, Javed Kalyar, Asif Kalyar, and the Chambar police.
Talking to newsmen, Abdullah Rind and Ali Mohammed Rind among others alleged that Choudhry Saeen Bux Kalyar, who was a Patharedar (i.e. harbourer of criminals), had made the lives of the villagers miserable.
They charged that the son of Kalyar, Asif, was wanted in two murder cases.
They said that the villagers were receiving death threats, and added that the Kalyars were trying to construct a road on their property.
They said that when they opposed the construction of the road, four villager were arrested by the police in false cases.
They feared that the arrested villagers — Sattar Rind, Bahadur Rind, Urs Rind, and Dhani Bux Rind — might be killed in fake encounters.
They said that the police was raiding the village for the arrest of 18 other villagers whose names had been given to the police by the Kalyars.
They accused the DSP and the SHO of the area of patronizing and protecting the Kalyars.
They demanded an inquiry into the alleged false case registered against the poor villagers.
They demanded protection against the excesses of the Kalyars and the police.
HUNGER STRIKE: Some former employees of the Zeal Pak Cement Factory continued their token hunger strike outside the Hyderabad Press Club on the 22nd consecutive day on Monday to protest against the non-payment of their golden handshake amount, gratuity fund, and provident fund.
Sharply reacting to the press conference of the present CBA union, the hunger strikers said that out of 587 employees who had been sent packing under the golden handshake scheme, 250 employees had not received their dues as yet.
