HYDERABAD, Nov 6: Women of remote areas face medical problems at a large scale which need due attention and efforts to overcome this problem with the cooperation of gynaecologists as well as donors.
This was said by the vice chancellor of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Prof Jan Mohammad Memon while speaking at a symposium on gyane oriented urinary incontinence organized by gynaecology department of the university on Tuesday in Jamshoro in collaboration with Sindh Doctors Association UK.
He said that the university was trying to enhance research work and introduce latest medical techniques as well as to raise the standard of education.
He said that after upgradation of Liaquat Medical College to the level of university, doctors of this institution were being sent abroad for latest training in several fields of medical sciences, while Dr Shahzad Leghari was the first doctor who had performed kidney transplantation successfully at LMC hospital Jamshoro after getting special training in this field.
Prof Dr Amna Memon in her speech said that the object of this symposium was to impart latest knowledge to doctors about gynaecology and urology to help the poor women.
Dr Abdul Hakeem Jokhio, representative of Sindh Doctors Association UK, said that his was a small organisation based in UK doing welfare work for the poor in Sindh province for the last 20 years.
“We do not have any support from any international donor organisation,” he said and added that whatever they were doing was through the contributions from very small number of members.
He said that for five years they were holding camps for free of cost and highly specialised surgical operations in different remote areas of Sindh province for poor and needy patients.
So far, he said, they had held four camps; two plastic surgery camps for young children in Larkana during 1998-99, one gynae surgical camp in 1999, and another gynae camp in Hyderabad last year.
“Now we are going to organize more camps in other specialities to cover more remote areas with the collaboration of other NGOs in the areas”, Dr Jokhio concluded.

FORMS: The controller of examinations, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Hyderabad, has announced that the last date for submitting the enrolment forms from the regular candidates and registration forms from the private candidates for SSC part-I (Class-IX) annual examination 2002 has been extended up to November 15 with late fee of Rs100 and November 30 with late fee of Rs200 respectively.
