KARACHI, Aug 5: Car hijackers shot a young man to death in SITE on Monday.

Police said that a young motorist, Amir Alvi, aged 35, resident of Gulshan- i-Iqbal, was in his Suzuki car (S-9077) when four armed men, riding in another car, intercepted him and demanded the car keys from him, in front of a multinational pharmaceutical company’s plant in SITE.

As Amir tried to put up resistance to the car hijackers, one of them opened fire on him. Car hijackers dragged the injured victim out of his car and escaped in his car. Amir was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died.

Sources at the hospital said that Amir was a contractor at the pharmaceutical company.

CARJACKING: Fifteen vehicles — seven cars and eight motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Monday, police said.

Four cars were hijacked. Three others were stolen.

Three motorcycles were hijacked. Five others were stolen.

Police also claimed on Monday to have recovered three cars and four motorcycles in the city.

SUICIDE: A young man committed suicide in a textile mill at Malir on Monday.

Police said that the company’s contractor Munir Husain reported to them that an employee of the company hanged himself from a ceiling fan some time during the night shift.

The body was sent to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for post- mortem.

After autopsy, the body had been kept in the Edhi’s morgue in Moosa Lane as it would be sent to Punjab, police said.

WOUNDED: Bandits shot and wounded a young shopkeeper at his shop in Eidgah on Monday.

Police said that three armed men came to a hardware shop owned by Shabbir, aged 35, on Kaka Street, Eidgah, and demanded money. As Shabbir tried to put up resistance to them, one of the bandits opened fire on him and escaped.

Police said that the bandits escaped empty-handed. The injured shopkeeper was admitted to Civil Hospital.

ACCIDENT: An elderly man died when he came under the wheels of a railway engine near Drigh Road railway station on Monday.

Police said that Mohammed Nazeer, aged 68, was run over by Khushhal Khan Khattak Express while walking across the railway tracks.

The body was sent to the JPMC for post-mortem.
