KARACHI, Nov 6: Chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Altaf Hussain, has reiterated that the South Asian region was passing through a very crucial phase and as such possibilities of any geographical changes also could not be ruled out.
He was addressing over telephone a gathering of his party’s labour division at the Khurshid Begum Memorial Hall, Azizabad, the other day.
He expressed the view that the world knew about the organisational abilities of Muttahida and therefore it would not be in the interest of the international world to ignore the party.
He pointed out to the party activists that the government agencies were extending assistance to the religious and jihadi parties, which were trying to prove that Karachi and Hyderabad were their cities. However, such forces and parties would remain unsuccessful in their attempts and only time would determine who was the loser, he added and asked the workers to remain united, steadfast and alert in the given situation, said a press release.
Meanwhile, in a statement from London, convener of the coordination committee of the Muttahida, Dr Imran Farooq, has said that an ex-member of his party, Muhammad Tariq Khan, who had illegally been arrested by the police, was being harrased and tortured, said another press release.
