GUJRANWALA, Aug 1: The government will provide funds for uplift projects directly to tehsil councils.
This was stated by provincial local bodies’ minister Brig Hamid Saeed Akhtar (retired) at a meeting with tehsil Nazimeen at the circuit house on Thursday.
The minister said the government would provide 80 per cent of the funds to the tehsil councils while they had to collect the remaining funds on their own. He said the Nazimeen had been allowed to recruit workcharge employees for sanitation.
He urged the tehsil Nazimeen to implement policies that would make the local bodies system a success. A mohtasib would be inducted at the defunct divisional headquarters to resolve the public complaints, he said.
ARRESTED: Naushera Virkan police claimed on Thursday to have arrested over 50 farmers of Baloki Virkan village over a dispute of canal water distribution.
Reports said two farmers, Muhammad Khan and Muhammad Arshad, had a dispute of water distribution. A couple of days back, Muhammad Khan and his accomplices shot at and injured Arshad’s brother Ataullah and kidnapped farmer Muhammad Yaqoob over the issue.
Arshad got an FIR registered against his rivals, Khan, Liaquat Ali, Riasat Ali, Irshad Ahmad and Amanat Ali. Police summoned both the groups at the police station for an inquiry where they came to blows.
The police have arrested the farmers and are investigating.
SEALED: Three filling stations were sealed on Thursday when the local district labour officer during a raid found their measuring scales defective.
Reports said labour officer and his team raided various filling stations in Gujranwala and found at three places defective measuring scales.
The official challaned the three filling stations and ordered to seal these.
GANG BUSTED: Kotwali police claimed on Thursday having busted a gang of dacoits and recovered valuables and arms in quantity from them. On a tip-off, the police team raided the judicial colony and arrested ring-leader Muhammad Asif, Amanat Ali, Asif and Amanullah with cash, gold ornaments and arms.
