MIRPURKHAS, Aug 1: Pakistan People’s Party has drawn the attention of Supreme Court towards corruption in the regime pointed out by none other than World Bank and asked it to take on suo motu notice of the financial mismanagement.
The former federal minister and member of the party’s central executive committee, Nawab Mohammad Yousuf Talpur said misappropriation of Rs 80 billion privatisation sale proceeds must be an eye-opener for the people.
The EOBI scandal and truck scam have proved the country was being subjected to worst corruption behind the facade of mudslinging against the political leadership, he said in a statement here on Thursday.
Quoting the World Bank’s Country Strategy Assistance (CAS) report, Yousuf Talpur said it was tragic to note that corruption had penetrated to that level in the armed forces.
He pointed out that the rampant corruption had pricked the bubble of foreign exchange reserves gimmick as a government which did not know the whereabouts of a huge amount of Rs 80 billion privatisation proceeds.
He said the PPP would carry out an even-handed accountability of all without any discrimination whenever it returns to power.
