HYDERABAD, Aug 1: The Kidney Foundation in collaboration with the Isra University, Hyderabad, the other day organized a programme at the university for the staff, doctors, and technicians looking after haemodialysis patients.
Prof M. Sauleh Memon, Chancellor of Isra University, inaugurated the programme.
Later, two scientific sessions were held covering various aspects of kidney failure and haemodialysis.
Prof S. A. Jaffar Naqvi, eminent nephrologist of the country, Prof Tahir Shafi, head of the department of nephrology, Shaikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore, gave an overview on improving the standard of haemodialysis and common causes of inadequate dialysis.
Dr Ejaz Ahmed of the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) spoke on the basics of haemodialysis procedure.
Dr Manohar Lal of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre discussed the problems associated with vascular access in haemodialysis patients.
Others who spoke included Dr Rasheed Shaikh of Isra University, Dr Haren Kumar, and Dr Rizwan Hussain of the Kidney Foundation.
They said that the number of patients in Pakistan was gradually increasing and the kidney foundation had been organizing such programmes in Karachi for doctors and dialysis staff in order to improve the quality of dialysis.
They said that this was the first programme organized by the Kidney Foundation in the interior of Sindh.
SUNNI TEHRIK: The chief of the Sunni Tehrik, Mohammed Abbas Qadri, has called upon the women to take full part in the October general election, and added that the status given to the women in Islam had no parallel in any religion.
He was addressing a women convention of the party at the Mehran Arts Council the other day.
He said those who did not recognize the rights of women were totally ignorant of Islam.
He said along with the elders and youth of the subcontinent, the women had also rendered tremendous sacrifices in the creation of Pakistan.
He said that the women of Pakistan were quite prepared to fight against the common enemy today.
He said the excesses being committed against the women were a challenge to the government which should come down with an iron hand against the oppressors.
The others who addressed the convention included Mohammed Khalid Qadri, Apa Feroza, Iftikhar Ahmed Bhatti, Maulana Akram Qadri, and Shahid Ghauri.
