Cattle diseases break out

CHITRAL, July 31: Nearly one hundred bulls perished due to the outbreak of diseases in the pastures of Reshun and Nishko.

Assistant Director of Livestock Department Dr Arifullah confirmed to Dawn the outbreak of anthrax and black water disease in the Reshun pastures.

He said that medical team had been sent to the affected area with the assistance of Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP), adding that the rescue team had not returned from there.

About the availability of vaccines, he said that sufficient quantity of vaccines had been dispatched to the Reshun pastures.

Sporadic outbreaks of diseases from other pastures of Shandur, Terich and Yarkhoon have also been reported.

SEMINAR: A one-day seminar was held here on Wednesday under the auspices of the Natural Resources Management (NRM) of AKRSP at Booni to impart training and knowledge to farmers to use indigenous ways and materials abandoning the pesticides.

The manager of NRM, Khalid Hussain, agriculturists Attaur Rehman and others told the farmers that frequent and unchecked use of pesticides had resulted in adverse effects on the crops.

They demonstrated the use of different techniques to control the pests.

Khalid told the farmers that under the integrated crop management (ICM), the materials would be supplied to the farmers and training workshops would be arranged in all the union councils of Mastuj tehsil.

Teshil Mastuj Naib Nazim Qadir Shah was the chief guest on the occasion.

He lauded the efforts of Natural Resources Management for the guidance and active support of the farmers.
