KARACHI, July 28: Speaking at a women’s convention here on Saturday, the Sunni Tehreek (ST) chief, Mohammad Abbas Quaderi, said that in today’s modern age, women have to come forward to usher in a social revolution.
“The status and rights given to women in Islam are much more than provided by any other religion or constitution. In Muslim society, women play an important role and confining them to domestic affairs is short sightedness,” he added.
Referring to the party stand viz-a-viz women, Maulana Quaderi said that the ST was not only the champion of women’s rights, but also believed in the struggle for their rights, as in a Muslim society, women had a vital role to play.
He lamented that in Islamic democratic Pakistan, excesses continued to be committed against women, and that the authorities had become spectators. He referred to the recent tragedy in Multan, which he said was a slap on the face of the government.
Abbas Quaderi assured women that the ST would never disappoint them, and would utilize all its resources to attain their rights, adding that women voters play a decisive role in the elections.
He also said that if it came to power, the ST would set up Imam Ahmad Raza University for women.
The convention was also addressed by Maulana Akram Quaderi, Iftikhar Bhatti, ST Women Wing leader Meriam Mustafai, and Bilqees Apa.
