MIANWALI, July 27: The Mianwali District Council convener on Saturday imposed a two-year ban on the leader of the house for attending the council session.
The convener announced the ban when treasury members staged a walkout from the Mianwali District Council.
Proceedings of the district council had just begun when leader of the house Syed Iqrar Shah asked the convener to discuss the minutes of the last meeting called in his (convener’s) absence. But the convener insisted on following the agenda of the present meeting and said he had declared the past meeting called in his absence as illegal.
This enraged the members and they raised slogans against the convener. All the members of the treasury walked out from the session. They were followed by opposition members.
Later, the convener banned the entry of the leader of the house to the council for two years.
When contacted, convener Amjad Khan Niazi said that he had imposed a ban according to the rules and regulations cited in the local bodies ordinance. He said his decision was in accordance with the law, adding that he could ban any member for disturbing the proceedings of the council meeting.
About the last meeting, he said he had never summoned that meeting because he was on leave.
When contacted, leader of the house Malik Muhammad Akram Awan termed the action of the convener unjust and unlawful. He said the members had elected the convener and they would never accept the illegal and unlawful actions of the convener.
