Urs of Waris Shah begins

SHEIKHUPURA, July 23: The 204th annual urs of Syed Waris Shah began at Jandiala Sher Khan on Tuesday.

The Punjab Arts Council has arranged a number of programmes for the five-day event which will continue till July 27. These include ‘Ghusal’ of the Mazar, horse dancing, Kabaddi competition and All Punjab Punjabi Mushaira, to be attended by leading poets.

According to the schedule, a Heer Khawani competition will be held after Isha prayers on Wednesday and Drama Heera Ranjha on July 25, also after Isha prayers.

INJURED: A farmer, his wife and son were injured by six armed men here on Tuesday.

Reports said Yaseen of Jhanky village had an enmity with some co-villagers, Anwar, Siddique and Riasat. On Tuesday, Anwar and his accomplices stormed into Yaseen’s house and injured him, wife and son.

Saddar police are investigating.

THEFT: Thieves on Tuesday took away valuables and cattle worth Rs650,000 in different parts of the district.

Some thieves entered the Sunshine cotton factory and took away valuables worth Rs500,000.

Meanwhile, some thieves took away one Ismail’s cattle worth Rs150,000 from his dera in Bhungowan, some 16km from here.

Sharaqpur police are going into the matter.
