RAWALPINDI, July 22: District Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani, with a view to checking police’s alertness, drove a ‘stolen’ car for over two hours on the city roads on Monday and was not intercepted anywhere.

Mr Kinai, without disclosing his identity, reported to the police that a grey-coloured Honda Civic (RIY 44) had been stolen. Subsequently, a wireless message was aired in the afternoon, alerting the police and Rescue 15 about the ‘stolen’ vehicle.

Later, the Nazim drove the same car through Marir Chowk, Murree Road, Pirwadhai Road, Faizabad and Rawal Road to his office. While driving through the busy roads and crossings, he even passed through the police pickets, set up to check car- theft, but remained undetected.

Talking to this reporter, the Mr Kiani said the exercise aimed at checking the efficiency of the police. Expressing displeasure over the situation, he said the people expected better response from the force.

The district Nazim’s spokesman, meanwhile, said he was not aware of the cause of such an unexpected way of checking the police.

The district police chief, Moravat Shah, has also expressed his displeasure over the inefficiency of his department, which let him down before the Nazim.
