KARACHI, July 22: A teenage boy died when he came in contact with a snapped wire in North Karachi on Monday.

The police said that Pappoo, aged 12, a domestic servant, accidentally touched a snapped wire in Sector 11-L and died on the spot.

The family told the police that Nazeer Ahmed, Pappoo’s father, died six months back, and the boy was the sole bread-winner of his four younger brothers, a sister and mother.

Sources said that residents had repeatedly complained about the snapped wire to the area KESC complaint centre, but negligence on the part of KESC officials resulted in the death of the boy.

ROAD ACCIDENTS: Reckless driving claimed two lives in the city on Monday.

The police said that a speeding water tanker (LS-6518) knocked down a 40- year-old man, later identified as Haider Zaman. He was run over by the water tanker while walking across a road in Mominabad.

The body was sent to a hospital for post-mortem. The police impounded the tanker and arrested its driver, Sadiq.

Sultan Ahmed, aged 45, was knocked down by a hit-and-run vehicle in Keamari while walking across the main road. He died on the spot.

An 80-year-old unidentified woman died when she came under the wheels of a train in Bin Qasim police limits. The accident took place while she was walking across the railway tracks. Her mutilated body was sent to a hospital where her identity could not be established.
