PESHAWAR, July 21: The NWFP chapter of the Tehrik-i-Insaf has elected its new provincial body here at a party convention, held at the Gor Gathri Hall, on Sunday.
All the new party office-bearers were elected unopposed by the divisional, district and tehsil presidents, general secretaries and provincial council members.
The delegates proposed the names of Nawabzada Mohsin Ali Khan (president), Tahir Umerzai (senior vice-president) and Faiz Mohammad Khan (general secretary).
The delegates empowered the provincial president to nominate the four vice-presidents from four different regions Peshawar, Swat, Hazara and southern districts.
The delegates also proposed the names of Begum Amanullah Khan (president women wing) and Nasima Hayat (general secretary women wing). The provincial council members endorsed the names of all the office-bearers.
Later a group of estranged leaders alleged that exercise was not an election but some sort of selection. The convention was nothing more than a mock show, they added.
However, the newly-elected provincial President Nawabzada Mohsin Ali Khan said it was a fair election. He said the election committee had announced election schedule, but none of the delegates filed their papers for the three main seats.
