MULTAN, July 18: The Muttahida Tulaba Mahaz has vowed to launch a movement against privatization of state-run educational institutions if the government does not withdraw its decision by July 25.

The Mahaz is a local alliance of various student organizations, including the People’s Students Federation, the Muslim Students Federation and the Islami Jamiat Tulaba, which has been formed to wage a struggle against an official move to bring changes in the administrative setup of state-run institutions.

A meeting of the Mahaz, held on Thursday with its convener, Hasnain Raza, in the chair, urged the government to withdraw its decision to privatize educational institutions.

SALARY DEMANDED: Workers of various semi-government civic bodies have demanded early payment of their salaries.

At a meeting held on Thursday, CBA unions of the Water and Sanitation Agency, the Multan Development Authority and the Multan Municipal Corporation expressed concern at delay in payment of salaries to employees of their departments concerned.

The meeting also demanded issuance of confirmation letters to the workcharged employees who were recently confirmed against their respective posts.

The meeting also urged the authorities to grant either weekly holiday to tubewell helpers and operators or give them overtime.

The authorities were warned that workers might resort to protest processions and hunger-strike camps if their demands were not met.
