PESHAWAR, July 18: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has said that the government will extend allout support to provide educational institutions with the books required by students of various faculties.

He was speaking at a gathering after the inauguration of the recently revamped central library of the University of Peshawar the other day.

He lauded the efforts of the varsity’s administration to upgrade facilities at the library and said these endeavours would bear fruit as researchers and students from different faculties would benefit from it.

He expressed displeasure at the shortage of books at the library and announced a grant of one million rupees and said the amount should be spent only for the purchase of new books.

Mr Shah urged the teachers and the students to take up research activities rigorously in order to produce more teachers and improve the standard of education in the province.

“I assure all possible help, both moral and material, for this noble cause and whenever there is a problem, the administration can bank on us for its solution because it is the responsibility of the government to provide education and opportunities for research to the students and teachers to make the varsity an example for other public sector institutions,” the governor said.

The governor termed the library impressive but called for its maintenance so that it could be used for longer periods and the coming generations could benefit from it. He went round different sections of the library and expressed his satisfaction over the arrangements made for the readers.
