PESHAWAR, July 18: The Society for Human Rights and Prisoners Aid has condemned the arrest and harassment of Afghan refugees in various towns of the country and asked the government to stop discriminatory attitude towards the displaced people.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the organisation’s chairman, Syed Liaqat Banori, the government, through a notification, had given the status of refugee to Afghans and the creation of commissionerates further proved that Afghans had been accepted as refugees. He said that Afghans had been exempted from foreign act.
The statement said that Pakistan should realise that sudden repatriation and deportation of millions of Afghans would cause further deterioration in Afghanistan’s condition which had already been suffering for the last two decades.
He appealed to the government to stop arrest and harassment of the refugees and release the arrested Afghans. This would promote cordial relations between the countries, he added.
