KARACHI, July 17: Residents of Al-Falah shot dead a robber on Wednesday evening, as the police allegedly showed a slackness on their part in responding to an emergency call from the area people.

Residents said three dacoits struck the house of Shaikh Ahsan Illahi. The neighbours informed the police on 15- Madadgar about the presence of robbers. However, they complained about delay on the part of the police. As the area people tried to catch hold of the robbers, they started firing on the people.

Some of the residents returned the fire which resulted in the death of a suspect.

Police said three robbers who were after Ahsan Illahi, reached Al-Shams Society to commit a robbery. The neighbours resisted the bandits and opened fire on them. One of the robbers died while two others escaped.

WOUNDED: A middle-aged man, who put up resistance to the highwaymen in a minibus, was shot and wounded in Sharifabad on Wednesday.

Police said three highwaymen got into a minibus of route F-21, in Sharifabad and made its occupants hostage at gunpoint. As they started collecting cash and belongings from commuters, a middle-aged man, Syed Mujtaba, put up resistance to the them. The robbers shot multiple bullets to Mujtaba and alighted from the bus.

Police patrol noticed the foul-play and chased the fleeing bandits. The police managed to apprehend a highwayman, identified as Yaseen. His accomplices, Sharif and Fareed escaped. Police recovered a TT pistol from Yasin.
