LAHORE, July 16: Some 4,000 talent scholarships amounting to Rs50 million have so far been distributed among workers’ children by the Punjab Workers Welfare Fund.
This information was given out at a meeting presided over by provincial labour and manpower secretary Iqbal Ahmad Raja here on Tuesday.
The Workers Welfare Board, the meeting was told, had been providing all education facilities including free books, uniform and transportation to more than 10,000 children of registered workers in 22 schools set up by the board.
The meeting was further informed that as many as 2,124 scholarships had also been given to students of intermediate, BA and MA/MSc who were studying in government colleges, universities or other affiliated institutions. The amount of scholarships offered by the board ranged from Rs10,000 to Rs33,600 per annum.
Giving details of the scholarships, board secretary Sohail Masood said these were Rs1,300 for a boarding student and Rs800 for a day-scholar of intermediate, Rs1,800 for a boarding student and Rs1,150 for a day-scholar at graduate level, Rs2,300 for a boarding student and Rs1,500 for a day-scholar at masters level/LLB and Rs2,800 for a boarding student and Rs1,800 for a day-scholar of MBBS, engineering, DVM, BSc (veterinary), BDS, ACMA, CA, BCS and MCS.
The board had also allocated special scholarships for workmen’s children studying in LUMS, FAST, NUST, IBA (Karachi) and GIK (Topi) besides one scholarship for the students getting education abroad, said the secretary.
