KARACHI, Oct 7: The followers of form were put to the sword, when not a single favourite obliged at the Winter Gymkhana Meeting held on Sunday afternoon at the Karachi Racecourse.

The ball was set rolling when Pride Of Performance, having attractive odds and ridden by Amjad Ali, beat Glamour Girl by one and half lengths. The favourite Double Your Money was third, with the 10-year-old Sunday Silence completing the frame.

The next event was picked up by Lucky One with Tariq Mehmood astride, beating the crowd fancy Satellite Star by 1 1/4 lengths, after the two were engaged in a keen tussle, sprinting for home.

Then to add salt to the wounds of the followers of form, My Lucky Star partnered by Saqib, took over the running from the bend and managed to hold off the stiff challenge from Pari Pakar and Magyar, in the third, where two runners and their riders came crashing down to the turf.

In a race having its full share of bumping and boring, Baby Face (Bashir Karim) whilst turning for home, ran into the path of Guarantee with riding boy Tariq Baran in the saddle.

Guarantee getting her front legs entangled with Baby Face, came down heavily on the turf sending her rider Tariq Baran sprawling on the ground. Then Winning Shot lying third, behind My Lucky Star and Pari Pakar have a furlong from home, dislocated his shoulder. Amjad Ali aboard the bay horse crashed to the ground. Both riders escaped serious injuries and were reported to be in a stable condition.

Then in the fourth race, Joan Of Arc backed by her connections for a song an running second behind Al Jarrar approaching the turn, also came crashing down to earth, when she was bumped by The New Challenge, having the services of Raees Ahmed in the saddle.

Jockey Ashiq Ali on the fallen filly was very lucky to survive the fall as he fell right into the path of the other nine runners sprinting in from behind. Ashiq Ali although battered and bruised, was indeed lucky to have been spared from serious injuries.

Kamal Farooq’s much talked about chestnut filly Nudrat, on course for a hat-trick, also met her doom, finishing a very poor third behind the winner I’m The King and Ray Of Light in the following event.

Edging Ahead with Ghulam Shabbir II once again in the saddle, gave his supporters something to cheer about, making amends by beating top weight, The Club Champion by two lengths, after Dur-e-Yamen and stable companion Sparkling Lady were pulled out of the race.

To put the final nail in the coffin, the bay filly Gambling Princess smartly ridden by jockey M. Yousuf, collared the favourite Al Ashia in the straight as the bay filly trying for four winners in a row for owner Kamal Farooq, completed a clean rout over the favourites.
