CHITRAL, July 15: The Nazim of Mastuj tehsil, Shamsur Rehman, has said the lack of health facilities is the biggest problem being faced by the people in the tehsil despite the fact that the government-run hospitals exist there.

Talking to Dawn here on Monday, he expressed his regret that the civil hospital Booni had failed to provide health cover to the area as the doctors posted there “are on the payroll of another organization”.

He added that a high-up of the department was constantly ignoring the issue despite repeated complaints. He said the hospital of Booni must be provided with all diagnostic facilities and specialists must be posted here.

Describing the criminal negligence of the health department, he said the X-ray machine in the rural health centre Mastuj had been thrown in the open on the hospital premises, exposing it to rust.

The Tehsil Nazim lamented that the BHUs and RHCs of the area were without doctors, while in the civil hospital Booni, there was no female doctor.

Regarding the new system of district government, he said the bureaucrats were busy hatching conspiracies to make it a failure to regain their dominance.

Citing an example, he said the tehsil administration had not so far been provided with necessary staff like tehsil municipal officer (TMO) which had paralyzed the administration’s working.

He expressed his satisfaction over the volume of development funds for his tehsil and said that for its judicious and just utilization, special committees had been formed to constantly watch the pace and quality of work.

He expressed his determination that no government functionary will be spared who showed laxity or was found indulging in corruption.

The Nazim also expressed his displeasure over the working of non-government organizations in the tehsil, which, he said, were bypassing the tehsil administration regarding the prioritization of their schemes and other activities.
