KARACHI, July 15: The Liaquatabad Town’s health department will launch an anti-pye dog campaign on Tuesday-Wednesday night to eliminate the menace of stray dogs.

Announcing this, the Town Nazim, Dr Pervaiz Mehmood, appealed to the residents of the Town to keep their pet dogs indoors on the campaign’s night otherwise Town officials would not be responsible in case some pet dog was eliminated during the drive.

The menace of stray dogs has assumed alarming proportions in various parts of the city, as a result of which cases of dog-bite have increased.

In various areas one can see stray dogs roaming freely on streets and main thoroughfares.

Stray dogs, including sick and seriously injured ones, also roam in and around busy commercial areas as well as parks and playgrounds, such as Empress Market, Tariq Road Commercial Area, Jama Cloth Market, Haidery Market, Karimabad’s Meena Bazaar, Jehangir Park and in the vicinity of the Quaid’s mausoleum, Federal B-Area’s Taaleemi Bagh, etc.

Some of the localities from where complaints of stray dogs have been received are Lines Area, Orangi, Korangi, Saddar, PIB Colony, Soldier Bazaar, Hyderabad Colony, Keamari, Mohammed Bin Qasim Road (formerly known as Burnes Road) and Frere Road.
