SC verdict upsets Abbasis

BAHAWALPUR, July 14: The PPP leadership is thinking to field either Aitzaz Ahsan or Hanif Ramay from the national assembly seat of Yazman tehsil.

Dawn learnt on Sunday that one of the party’s old guards had an opportunity because District Nazim Tariq Cheema was not interested and wanted to continue his current assignment.

Meanwhile, the graduation upholding is a bolt from the blue for the Abbasi family whose all the former law-makers, except one, are ineligible.

Former MNA Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi (thrice elected from his home constituency) and Punjab assembly ex-deputy speaker Sahibzada Usman Abbasi are out of the contest.

However, Nawab Salahuddin’s uncle, former state minister Prince Saeedur Rashid Abbasi, is the only member of the family eligible to contend. He is likely to contest with PPP’s nominee Tehsil Nazim Sami Gillani in Ahmadpur East NA constituency.
