KARACHI, July 10: Power failures continued to occur in the city on Wednesday as the KESC failed to provide uninterrupted power supply to its consumers.

Calling from North Karachi, Sector 11-B near Disco More, Shahid Malik complained that nearly everyday at the crack of dawn, the KESC switches off power to his area.

“I wake up because of power failure in the morning. Previously I used to iron my clothes for work in the morning. But one day I had a bad experience when there was no electricity. I, therefore, decided to iron my clothes at night. Nevertheless, the KESC should do something about morning power breakdowns if it is not carrying out loadshedding.”

A resident of Federal B Area, Block 14, said when he went to lodge a complaint with his complaint centre, some KESC officials accused him of making complaints to newspapers.

“The KESC officials said that somebody who has the same name as I makes complaints to newspapers which get them into trouble.

“I explained to them that I do not know how to lodge power complaints with newspapers. They were reluctant to believe what I was saying.”

The residents of PECHS, Federal B Area, Saddar and Nazimabad said their areas had been without electricity more than once, especially in the early hours of Wednesday.

A resident of PECHS, Block 2, said that frequent power shutdowns had forced them to stay awake the previous night.

A resident of Federal B Area, Block 17, told Dawn that his locality had not received uninterrupted power supply for a long time.

A resident of Nazimabad, Block 1, said that the previous night the pole-mounted transformer of his locality had developed a fault after emitting some sparks.

“We went to the complaint centre of our area to get the KESC staff to remove the fault. They first told us that they did not have a vehicle. Later they said they did not have the equipment. They did not remove the fault and made one excuse or another. Thus we spent the night without electricity.”

A resident of Saddar told Dawn that his area had faced multiple but brief power shutdowns on Wednesday.
