BAHAWALPUR, July 8: The SP crime on Monday submitted his report to the Bahawalpur Range DIG for action against the culprits involved in the gang-rape case at Mauza Sangla near Tarindah Muhammad Panah, Rahim Yar Khan district.

A twenty-year-old married girl told the crime branch team that four accused Akmal Mastoi, Ajmal, Yaseen alias Kala and Inamul Haq had abducted her. She said they took her to Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, Karachi and Lahore where they raped her. On the pressure of area’s influential people, police arrested only Akmal Mastoi and Yaseen alias Kala while the remaining two accused are still at large.

INTERVIEW: A three-member panel on Monday interviewed the candidates for the membership of the Bahawalpur district public safety commission.

The panel headed by district and sessions judge Badaruz Zaman Chattha and comprised Maj Dr Bilqis Nawaz (retired) and former deputy commissioner Taj Muhammad Lodhi interviewed all the 62 male and female applicants. Journalists, NGO officials, retired professors, businessmen, lawyers and retired government officials were also among the candidates. The panel forwarded the names of 10 selected candidates, including two women, to the Home department which would finally select among them five candidates including a woman.

It may be mentioned that five members, including a woman, have already been elected by members of the district council, Bahawalpur.

HOUSE BURNT: Unidentified outlaws set the house of a contractor on fire in Awan Colony here on Monday.

Neighbours rescued the wife and children of the contractor, Muhammad Arshad Sabri. He however estimated the loss of over Rs0.5 million.

Baghdadul Jadeed police have registered a case against the unidentified accused.

TWO KILLED: Two persons were killed and three others suffered injuries, one of them serious, in two road accidents here on Monday.

A speeding coaster (AKA-1878) knocked down two brothers near Kali Pulli, killing Mohsin (4) instantly while injuring his brother Sajid (6). He was rushed to the BVH in critical condition.

Local police have registered a case against the absconding driver.

A trailer (ISB-8626) and a truck crashed at high speeds near Uch Sharif. The truck owner, Ismail, died on the spot while two others sustained injuries.

Police are looking for the absconding trailer driver.
