QUETTA, July 8: The governor Balochistan, Amirul Mulk Mengal, has said that his government was determined to root out corruption, and had initiated action against senior corrupt government employees and politicians etc.

“No corrupt official would be spared,” Mengal told a delegation of Awami National Party (ANP) led by central secretary-general Dr Inayatullah on Monday.

Unlike previous governments, he said, the present government was fulfilling its promises regarding the elimination of corruption and completion of development projects in the province.

He informed the delegation that 1000-km black-top roads were constructed in a limited time, and work on Zhob- Quetta would start this year. The government had approved the construction of a double road up to Kuchlak and a bridge near Balili.

The governor said that steps were under way to deal with the effects of the four-year drought. Over 80 dams and hundreds of water supply schemes have also been completed.

He said that the government had written off Taqavi loans up to Rs50,000 in Balochistan to provide maximum facilities to the growers and zamindars, and Agriculture Development Bank had also announced the writing off Rs50,000 loans.

The other members of the ANP delegation were — Arbab Abdul Zahir Kasi, Ghulam Sarwar Achakzai, Abdul Shakoor Kakar, Haji Nizamuddin Sahib Jan Kakar, and Abdul Malik Panizai.

A delegation of Nurzai tribe also called on the governor and apprised him of their problems. The governor told them that an amount of Rs7.5 million has been approved for the construction of a bridge in Nurzai Colony.

He said that Rs1 million had been provided for water supply schemes. Also, a primary school had been approved, and funds had already been released for the cleaning and rehabilitation of underground water channels. And, 1000 wheat bags would be provided to the poor people of the area.
