MIRPURKHAS, July 8: A protest demonstration was taken out on Monday by the Citizens Action Committee for Women Rights, Mirpurkhas, with the collaboration of other NGOs against the gang rape of Ms Mukhtaran Bibi in Meerwala, Multan.

Hundreds of people, including women, elected councillors, NGO activists, and citizens, participated in the procession, which started from the Citizens Gymkhana Club.

Carrying banners and placards, they marched on the main roads and finally stopped in front of the press club, where they held a demonstration and demanded an exemplary punishment for the rapists.

Imtiaz Panhwar, coordinator, Citizens Action Committee, Rais Ahmed Khan, general secretary, Social Services Coordination, Begum Saeed Akhtar, Ashraf Jamal, president, Rural Development Association, and Ms Mumtaz Soomro also spoke on the occasion.

LINEMAN INJURED: A lineman of Hesco city sub-division, Islamuddin, was seriously injured when he fell from an electric pole at Umerkot road on Monday.

He was taken to the Civil Hospital Mirpurkhas.

CASE REGISTERED: Tension gripped Samroti Deh, Digri Taluka, near Naokot, following the registration of a case at the Naokot police post against two Bajwa tribesman, Mukhtar Bajwa and Anwar Shar, for injuring a Jiskani tribesman, Fateh Jiskani, with arms.

A police picket has been set up there to avert any untoward incident.

ROBBER CAUGHT: A robber, Fida Hussain, was caught by the residents of a house at the Imam Bux Lashari village on Sunday night.

Later, he was handed over to the Samaro police.
