HYDERABAD, July 8: The Supporting Democratic Electoral Process (SDEP), an NGO, has called upon the voters to throw the feudal lords, Pirs and Mirs out of political arena in the coming election and seek an alternate leadership for the country.

The NGO, which is working for creating political awareness among the women, at a meeting held here on Monday, urged the women to take part in political activities and provide an alternative leadership to the people.

Speaking at the meeting, the district coordinator of the organization, Mohammad Ilyas Khokhar, said that due to the imposition of martial laws in the country, the people had been fed up with politics as a result of which anarchy had replaced politics.

He said that time was ripe for the middle class to come forward and launch a campaign to motivate the people to exercise their right of franchise.

Khokhar said that the women could play a dominant role in politics and to achieve this objective they should contest elections. He said that the women could protect their rights only when they had representation in the policy making institutions.

The others who spoke on the occasion included Sohail Abro, Sain Bukhsh Soomro, Ali Mohammad Jamali and Zaibun-nisa Mallah.

HUNGER STRIKE: The residents of Sobhiar village, Tharparkar district, continued a token hunger strike outside the pess club here for the second consecutive day on Monday against the alleged excesses of a clerk of the sessions court, Mithi, Moula Bukhsh Bajer.

They appealed to the higher authorities to hold an inquiry against him.
