KARACHI, July 8: The Sindh High Court issued on Monday notices for July 11 on the bail application of a former MNA and a former secretary-general of the United Bank Limited (UBL) Employees Federation of Pakistan, Aziz Memon, and his wife, Fareeda Memon.
A division bench, comprising Justice Zahid Kurban Alvi and Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany, issued notices on the bail application and admitted for hearing their appeal against the sentence of seven years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs10 million awarded by an accountability court sitting at Karachi.
Aziz Memon was convicted by the accountability court No 4 judge, Javed Alam, on charges of living beyond his legitimate source of income and misuse of authority in his capacity as MNA. He bought large property in the name of his wife as she had been helping her husband in all corrupt practices.
The SHC fixed July 11 for hearing the bail application and adjourned till date in office the appeal against conviction.
The same division bench admitted for hearing two identical appeals of former Sindh minister of excise & taxation Ismail Rahu and director Sindh excise & taxation department Agha Wazir Abbas against their conviction by an accountability court sitting at Karachi.—PPI
