GUJRAT, July 7: The district administration has reshifted the municipal bus stand to private sites.
Dawn learnt on Friday that former SSP Riaz Ahmad and army monitoring team got the private stands shifted to the municipal stand completed at a cost of Rs20 million on July 28, 2001.
The Punjab governor sought a report from the district administration and assured maximum facilities to commuters.
District Coordination Officer Agha Nadeem constituted a committee, comprising RTA secretary, traffic DSP and district officers for roads and buildings, to survey private transport stands for confirming facilities to the commuters.
Despite absence of facilities, the survey officers submitted an okay report for the reasons best known to them.
The municipal bus stand wore a deserted look as most of the vehicles were driven to private stands.
Social circles have demanded the Punjab governor to order an impartial inquiry into the matter.
