HYDERABAD, July 7: The leaders of the Struggle Committee Badin — Mir Muhammad Solangi of Sindh National Party, Roshan Ali Soomro of Citizens Action Committee and Ali Raza Sodho of Jeay Sindh Mutahidda Mahaz — observed token hunger strike outside the press club here on Sunday against a contractor of oil companies.
They told newsmen that the contractor, appointed by the companies, was denying jobs to the local people and employing workers from Punjab.
HUNGER STRIKE: Six residents of Khan town, Mirpurkhas, observed a hunger strike outside the press club here on Sunday against the excesses of the local police.
Led by Khan Muhammad Magsi and his nephew, Dilshad Magsi (the victim), the protesters told newsmen that the Mustafa Thebo, SHO of the Khan police station, Amin Mari, ASI, and constables, Eijaz Magsi and Iqbal Khaskheli barged into the house of Mr Magsi on June 22 and arrested Dilshad.
Mr Magsi claimed that Dilshad was tortured in the lock-up and deprived of Rs700 and a wrist watch. He further claimed that the victim was released on payment of Rs5,000.
He revealed that a written complaint against the police was submitted with the DPO Mirpurkhas on June 27 but no action had been taken so far.
Instead, he said, he and his nephew were being threatened by police with dire consequences.
