KARACHI, July 7: Reckless driving claimed six lives in the city on Sunday.

A photographer of an Urdu daily was run over by an unidentified vehicle near the Star Gate police kiosk on Sharea Faisal in the afternoon.

Abdul Latif Khan, aged 65, was on his way to his office on I. I. Chundrigar Road from his Saudabad, Malir, residence on motorcycle, when he met with the fatal accident. His head and an arm were badly smashed.

The body was sent to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre for autopsy.

The police said that the motorcycle skidded on Sharea Faisal and Latif fell to the ground. He was run over by an unidentified speeding vehicle that was coming behind him.

Two men died and four others were injured when two passenger coaches collided head on Tariq Road.

Data Coach (PE-4125) and Hasanzai Coach (PE-4263) collided with each other. As a result, a passenger, Misri Khan, aged 27, and the driver of Data Coach, whose name could not be ascertained, died on the spot. Four other passengers, Nazar Husain, Samina, Kulsoom and Ruqaiyya, were injured.

People gathered at the spot and raised slogans against reckless driving. The police controlled the situation.

A teenager died and a young man was injured when a speeding truck knocked them down near Annu Bhai Park in Nazimabad.

Kashif Masih, aged 18, and Rafaqat, aged 26, were travelling on a motorcycle when they were knocked down by a truck (LSB-329). Kashif died on the spot and Rafaqat was seriously injured. The dead and injured were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The police arrested the truck driver, Wali Mohammed, and impounded the truck.

A recklessly driven bus of route 4-K killed a young man near the Do Minute Chowrangi in New Karachi. Amir, aged 25, who was riding on a bicycle, died on the spot. The police impounded the bus, but the bus driver escaped.

One man died and four others were injured when a speeding truck rammed into a roadside eating house in Mauripur. The police said that a speeding truck (LS-3198) rammed into an eating house near the Truck Stand at Gate No 4. Mohammed Pervez, who was eating his meal, died on the spot. Mohammed Siddique, Abdul Hameed, Mohammed Saleem and Mehboob Khan were injured. The dead and injured were shifted to a hospital.

The police impounded the truck and arrested its driver, Shahid.
