Ghalia faces Sobia in final

KARACHI, July 6: Teenager Ghalia Khursheed played superbly to oust top seed Sadia Yasmeen to enter the women’s singles semifinal of All-Sindh Open table tennis tournament at Islamia Club Indoor Gymnasium Friday.

The 17-year-old Ghalia of Sindh Sports Board Complex demonstrated good serves, volleys and smashing to defeat Sadia of Pak PWD in a closely contested five games quarterfinal.

Earlier, Ghalia also qualified for the final of girls singles by beating Maria Altaf of Karachi Gymkhana.

In girls singles finals Ghalia will meet club-mate Sobia Ahzaz.

Ghalia Khursheed bt Sadia Yaseen 11-9, 9-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-9, Shahida Yousuf bt Sobia Ahzaz 11-7, 11-8, 11-9, Sania Qaiser bt Najia Khan 11-7, 11-8, 11-4. Naureen Tehseen bt Beenish Amir 11-8, 11-8, 11-9 Girls Singles (semi finals) Ghalia Khursheed bt Maira Altaf 11-7, 8-11, 11-5, 11-9, Sobia Ahzaz bt Syeda Marium 11-5, 11-7, 11-9 .
