MIRPURKHAS, July 6: Nearly half of the Mirpurkhas town was plunged into darkness on Friday night when wires of 1100kv high- tension line were broken.

A loaded truck hit wires of 1100kv high-tension line at Khipro Naka Chowk here as result of which a 200kv transformer at Pak Colony was burst.

The power supply in Hesco Hirabad sub-division was disrupted at 9pm.

The areas plunged into darkness were Pak Colony, Ghousia Colony, Malhi Colony, Nawab Colony, Hirabad, Jamnadas Colony, Hameedpura Colony, Nai Para, and many villages of surrounding areas.

In another incident, a speedy truck of a law-enforcing agency rammed into a power pole on the Hyderabad Road, uprooting the pole and breaking high-tension lines.

The driver of the truck was injured and was taken to the civil hospital.

The power was disconnected to the Hesco city sub-division.

Hesco officials reached on the spot and started the repair work, which was continuing till filing of this report.
