HYDERABAD, July 4: In order to build up the capacity of the existing primary and higher secondary schools, an amount of Rs42.24 million will be spent under the education reforms sector in Hyderabad District.

This was informed by the district coordination officer (DCO), Hyderabad, Mir Hussain Ali, while presiding over a meeting regarding education sector reforms and funds for the School Management Committee (SMC) at his office on Thursday.

He said that in addition to that an amount of Rs 98 million has been made available for the school management committees to meet school requirements according to their needs.

He informed the meeting that a teachers’ research centre, one each at the Taluka headquarter and at the district headquarters, would be established under the Education Sector Reform Programme.

He said that introduction of technical stream in 80 existing secondary and higher secondary schools, revamping of science education facilities in 100 existing secondary schools, introduction of nursery classes in primary government schools, and the establishment of two literacy centres — one for 10- to 14-year-old children and another for 15 and above age groups of illiterate people at the union council level — have also been targeted under the education sector reforms programme.

Besides, for the rehabilitation of existing primary/elementary education, 73 buildings will be constructed and 155 schools will be provided facilities to enhance their capacity under this programme.

He informed that the government has provided Rs98 million to meet the requirements of schools through the school management committees concerned and asked the executive district officer education, Zamir Qazi, to submit a report regarding the constituting of the SMC.
