LAHORE, July 2: The chances for the completion of the International Squash Complex in Lahore looks brighter after a lapse of seven years as the Punjab government has released a fund of Rs 10 million for the project.

Construction of the complex located behind the National Hockey Stadium at Nishter Park Sports Complex first started in 1992,but was suspended in 1995 due to lack of funding by subsequent governments.

The Punjab Squash Association during this period also made offers to PIA, PAF and the squash maestro Jansher Khan to own the complex on build and run basis. But they all showed reluctance in the matter.

The project remained in cold storage for seven years. Now, the Punjab government has released funds to restart the project. sources told Dawn.

Though the amount seems nominal, if properly used it is sufficient to complete at least two courts out of a total seven.
