KARACHI, July 2: The steps taken to meet any emergency during rains in 18 Towns of the city were reviewed at a meeting held under the chairmanship of DCO Karachi Shafiqur Rehman Paracha on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by all the Town Municipal Officers, who briefed the meeting about details of the measures taken in case of an emergency situation, including cleaning of drains, covering of open manholes, etc.

It was decided that regular meetings of the coordination committees of KWSB chief engineers and Town Nazimeen will be organized and decisions would be taken about sewerage, water and other civic problems and their implementation would be ensured.

It was decided that the DCO would be kept informed about the proceedings of the meetings.

The meeting was informed that the city government considered the cases of water contamination as very serious and in this regard no delinquency would be tolerated.

The DCO directed all the TMOs to specially keep a vigil on complaints of water contamination and get them redressed immediately from the KWSB.

In case there was no action taken by the KWSB, the same should be brought to the notice of the City Nazim and concerned Town Nazim and the DCO.—APP
