KARACHI, June 28: The Sindh government has made a block allocation of Rs146.556 million for the schemes launched and later abandoned by the successive governments in the province, said minister for local government Dewan Muhammad Yousuf Farooqui.

The allocations have been made under Public Sector Development Programme on district-wise basis keeping in view the schemes abandoned in each district, he said while talking to newsmen.

The minister said that out of total allocation, Rs19.493 million have been earmarked for Karachi, Rs6.184 million for Hyderabad, Rs7.415 million for Dadu, Rs4.998 million for Thatta, Rs15.379 million for Badin, Rs13.374 million for Mirpur Khas, Rs6.240 million for Sanghar, Rs3.129 million for Tharparkar, Rs5.794 million for Sukkur, Rs11.222 million for Nawabshah, Rs7.970 million for Naushehro Feroz, Rs6.717 million for Khairpur, Rs0.497 million for Ghotki, Rs11.210 million for Larkana, Rs7.975 million for shikarpur and Rs18.959 million for Jacobabad. This would greatly help complete abandoned schemes as millions and millions of public money have already been spent on these schemes which would go waste otherwise, he added.

The minister said that the government has planned its development strategy in such a way that the local governments could be strengthened further. This could be observed from new fiscal year’s Provincial Annual Development Programme wherein sector-wise and district-wise allocations of Rs7000 million have been made that include Rs1187.230 million for new schemes for the districts.—PPI
