KARACHI, June 28: A large number of residents of Shanti Nagar, Union Council-7, Gulshan Town, have complained about the non- delivery of bills by the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation for the last four months.
The residents, mostly government servants, complained that the concerned staff of the KESC’s Gulshan-i-Iqbal office have stopped delivering electricity bills. Since they have to leave their homes for work early in the morning, it is difficult to visit the KESC office and get duplicate bills for payment, they added.
The residents said that they used to get the bills regularly till four months back, after which the delivery of bills at their doorstep was stopped. “We have reports that bills are regularly issued and handed over to the concerned staff, but they do not visit the whole area for delivery of the bills due to the absence of checks and balances,” they said.
The people feared difficulty in payment of the accumulated amount, in addition to the late payment surcharge thereon, and added that the KESC also suffers due to the slackness and carelessness of its staff.
Showing another evidence of the slackness of KESC officials, the residents said that 60 people had applied for new power connections and meters last year through an approved contractor of the KESC. They had paid the prescribed fee and the charges of the contractor, but there has been no headway in this respect and all these residents still use kunda connections.—PPI
