KARACHI, June 27: Three men committed suicide in the city on Thursday.

A father of seven committed suicide because of joblessness in his home in New Karachi. The police said that Yameen, aged 55, an electrician, hanged himself in his home in Sector 5-M in New Karachi. He had been jobless for the past many months. He had been suffering from depression due to prolonged unemployment.

The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.

A young man committed suicide in his home in Saeedabad.

The police said that Ataur Rahman, aged 28, hanged himself in his home in sector 5-J in Saeedabad.

He was suffering from depression after suffering losses in his small business.

He was a bachelor and lived with his parents.

The police said that Ata committed suicide some time on early Thursday morning. When he did not came out of his room in the morning, his parents informed neighbours who called in the police.

The body was sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem.

Another young man committed suicide in his home in Korangi at night.

The police said that Fahim Gul, aged 23, hanged himself from a ceiling fan in his house in sector 34-1 in Korangi.

The body was sent to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre for post-mortem.

The police had no further details.

FIRE: A major fire broke in an industrial unit at SITE on early Thursday morning. A huge quantity of silk, cotton and other raw material were destroyed in the fire.

However, no loss of life or injury was reported, an official of the fire department said.

The fire erupted around 4.30am and was contained about 7pm.

According to the fire brigade, the fire was reported by the SITE station at 4.30am. Another official said that the fire erupted at Taqi Mills situated on the first floor of Sanaullah Textile Mills located in the compound of Plot C-18, SITE.

The entire first floor of Taqi Mills was destroyed where polyester was kept.

Around 6am more fire tenders were called. Fire brigade officials said that losses were likely to run into millions of rupees, but an accurate figure could be established only by the management of the mills.

The fire destroyed one godown, the machine room and the first floor of the factory, the fire brigade said.

Twenty-three fire tenders were pressed into service.

VEHICLES GUTTED: Three vehicles of the provincial government were destroyed in a fire in Lyari on late Wednesday night.

The vehicles (GA-4748), (GP-7191) and (CA-9574) were parked at the backyard of an eating-house in Lyari.

The police said that the fire erupted in the parking lot of Al-Mekran Hotel near Aath Chowk in Baghdadi. The fire broke out when the guard was asleep. The police detained the guard for questioning.

An official of the fire department said that the cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately.
