PESHAWAR, June 27: The women councillors of Karak district unions have decided to boycott all training workshops to protest against what they called “poor planning and misbehaviour” of the officials of the district population welfare department during a seminar.

Talking to Dawn here on Wednesday, a number of women councillors, most of whom were above 60 years of age, criticized the attitude of the officials and other organizers of the seminar held at the Karak Town Hall on Tuesday.

According to the complainants, the two-day seminar attended by more than 100 councillors, mostly women, was marred by mismanagement, as all the participants rose from their seats in the middle of the function to protest against the non-provision of drinking water to them.

“We were told that every participant would be provided with pick and drop service in addition to Rs100, but at the end of the day, we were given only a cup of tea,” they said.

Most of the participants, who came from the remote areas of the district, had to face numerous hardships, including long wait for buses and coaches in the scorching heat.

Rebuilding demanded: Religious parties have demanded of the government to immediately rebuild the demolished mosque of Peshawar central jail.

Activists of various religious bodies took out a protest rally on Thursday from Namakmandi Mosque here, to flay the demolition. They were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the city district government’s step.
