KARACHI, June 26: The closure of a portion of Abdullah Haroon Road in front of US Consulate since the car bomb explosion on June 14 has caused traffic jams in the surrounding roads and agony to the motorists and commuters.

Besides, Fatima Jinnah Road where the residence of the US Consul General is located and the Sharah-i-Iran in Clifton were have been closed folowing the car bombing, causing severe problems to motorists.

The police on June 21 had announced the opening of the raod within 48 hours.

However, the 48 hours of the police have kept stretching despite the fact that 120 hours have passed since the official announcement.

The motorists are not allowed to use Abdullah Haroon Road from the Metropole Chowk to Hoshang Chowk as the US Consulate is situated. The traffic police have miserably failed to control the traffic flood especially in the morning and evening rush hours.

The traffic jams are witnessed especially at PIDC roundabout on Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road as the traffic coming from Clifton is diverted to Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road from Hoshang Chowk.

The traffic flow is also disturbed at the Shaheen Complex Chowk and the Aiwan-i-Saddar Road is crowded.

Due to closure of Fatima Jinnah Road from Avari Towers to Cantt Station, the traffic gets jammed on the Metropole Chowk and the Club Road.

Owing to the closure, motorists have to wait for long to get out of the traffic deluge.

Sources in the police department said that the roads had been closed because of the presence of FBI personnel in the city, a majority of whom are staying in near by hotels.

However, motorists have expressed concern over such sort of traffic arrangement which has been resulting in the wastage of their precious time.
